Annabel had a fantastic two days, completing the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) Ante and Post-Natal pilates course on the 8th and 9th February 2020.
The course was led by renowned presenter and women's health physiotherapist Emily Elgar in Manchester and is exclusive to health professionals wanting to further their knowledge in Pregnancy Pilates.
The course focused on modified mat work pilates during the ante-natal period and developed knowledge on physiological, biomechanical and postural changes that occur during the childbearing year. The course also covered guidelines to exercise in pregnancy including benefits to the mother and child.
The post-natal focus of the course, centered around understanding and identifying Diastasis Rectii (the separation of the abdominal muscles during pregnancy) and the core strengthening required after birth.
All exercises are safe and effective during the ante and post natal period and can be key in relaxing and strengthening areas prone to injury during pregnancy.
